Now in its 15th year, the Adelaide 24 Hour Festival continues a rich history of time-based running events. It started in 2009 with Sri Chinmoy, was taken over by Ben Hockings and URSA, and, upon the close of URSA, moved onwards to Dawn Parks, who is focused on watching it grow. Indeed, she has a ‘glow up’ planned for 2024, which includes new sponsors, individual trophies for all 6/12/24 hour podium winners, and a ‘spirit off’ – a friend competition between local running groups, with the prize being donations to local charities of their choice.
The course is a 2.2km loop unique in the time-based endurance event world, as the track offers soft dirt to run on – softer than the typical asphalt with better views than the stadiums accompanying most tracks. Runners run through a flat, tree-lined park and receive aid every 2.2km.
